One crore steps for safer roads crosses 60 lakhs steps donation

New Delhi [India], Aug 9 (NewsVoir): NGODrive Smart Drive Safe unique project titled ‘1Crore Steps for Safer Roads‘ is gaining momentum day by day. The project entails a record walk from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, a distance of 3600 kilometers, to be covered in just 60 day by Subramanian ‘Subu’ Narayanan who is an employee of Hella India and will cover about 20 cities across South, West and North India.

The project envisages participation and engagement from the general public in the form of short walks to show their solidarity with Subramanian ‘Subu’ Narayanan and the cause, by “Walk Donation” from anywhere in the country, #WalkWithSubu – A First of its kind in India to support the cause of Arresting Alarming Road Deaths.

Walk donation can be done on www.onecroresteps.com. The walk donation campaign has already created a buzz as the campaign received 60 lakhs steps as donation in 12 days itself. The programme is supported by The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, NGO Arrivesafe, ACMA, SIAM, FICCI, CII-Yi, FADA, Bharat Scouts & Guide and partnered by Hella, WABCO & Brakes India.
The flag off for the event happened in Kanyakumari on 28th July, and will reach Kashmiron 2nd October. The project has already initiated a nationwide public debate on the subject of road safety as various organisation, corporates, schools and local people are joining the walk in the cities on the route.
“The latest data about road accidents in India is very alarming. With one death every 4 minutes and an accident every minute, the situation is very critical and cannot be left unattended for long, and hence our team member “Subu” is taking the challenge to appeal all Indians to join this national movement and donate their walk on www.onecroresteps.com to put this on highest priority,” said Mr. Ramashankar Pandey, President, Central Working Committee of the NGODrive SmartDrive Safe and Managing Director of HELLA India Lighting Ltd.
“When we make the Roads Safer, when more people can walk, use of private vehicles will come down for short distances and Roads will become even more safer. I am on this mission to raise public awareness about difficulty of pedestrians on Indian Roads, which can lead to urgent action for creating robust system approach to Road Safety. D2S – Drive Smart Drive Safe (D2S) is a Section 25 Company, an NGO that aims to educate people on road safety and reduce road accidents and deaths on Indian roads. One crore steps for pedestrian safety

T’puram: A campaign ‘One Crore Steps for Safer Roads’, focusing on pedestrian safety, will reach the city on Sunday.

Organized by NGO Drive Smart Drive Safe, the campaign involves walk from Kanyakumari to Kashmir by Subramanian Narayanan.

Narayanan, who is an employee of Hella India, is planning to walk a distance of 3,600km in 60 days covering 20 cities across south, west, and north India. The programme, supported by the ministry of road transport and highways, was flagged off from Kanyakumari on Saturday and will reach Kashmir on October 2.

Volunteers of Scouts and Guides, employees of Aegis Global, volunteers of Yamaha Motors, students of Women’s College, auto association members, CRPF men, traffic police and general public will join Narayanan to show their solidarity at 7am on Sunday from the Infosys campus.

Mathew A John, DIG, CRPF Thiruvananthapuram, along with commissioner of police P Prakash will join the walk. People will be taking safety pledges and will be sensitized on road deaths.

“We will capture videos as evidence of walking and difficulties on the way. The project envisages participation from the general public in the form of short walks to show their solidarity with Subramanian Narayanan and the cause, either on the route of this walk or by ‘walk donation’ from anywhere in the country. Walk donation, is where people can ‘donate the steps they walked’ on www.onecroresteps.com,” representatives of the NGO said. tnn

Kashmir-Kanyakumari walkathon to raise awareness on road safety

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Palakkad-native Subramanian Narayanan, aka Subu, will take out a Kashmir-Kanyakumari walkathon to raise awareness on road safety. The programme launched by the NGO Drive Smart Drive Safe and supported by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways will be flagged off at Kanyakumari on Saturday. It will conclude in Kashmir on October 2.

“The walkathon is to raise public awareness on the difficulty of pedestrians on our roads. Let us unite for a common goal cutting the barriers of gender, social status and geographic locations for a common goal,” said Subramanian.

Ramashankar Pandey, managing director of Hella India and president, central working committee of the Drive Smart Drive Safe, said the organisation wants Indian roads to be accident-free.

“With one death every four minutes and an accident every minute, the situation is very critical and cannot be left unattended,” he said. Pandey said the walkathon will help make the problem an issue of national priority.

Walkathon to spread awareness on road safety

Subramanian Narayanan will commence a 3,600 km walk from Kanyakumari on Saturday to Kashmir to spread awareness on the fatalities in road network paths and promote road safety.

Being undertaken under NGO Drive Smart Drive Safe’s “1 Crore Steps for Safer Roads’ initiative, the Hella India employee will cover the 20 cities across South, West, and North India in 60 days.

Supported by Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the walkathon will reach Kashmir on October 2.

Mr. Subramanian will reach the State capital on July 29 and people from all walks of life will join him to show their solidarity for the cause on Sunday at 7 a.m. from the Infosys campus. District Police Chief, Thiruvananhapuram City P. Prakash and DIG, CRPF, Mathew A. John will join the walk.

During the walk across the country, citizens who join for short walks will be taking safety pledges and will be sensitized towards alarming fatalities taking place in road network.

The 1 Crore Steps for Safer Roads initiatives is supported by NGO Arrivesafe, ACMA, SIAM, FICCI, CII-Yi and partnered by Hella, Wabco and Brakes India.

Mr Subu will be taking approximately 32 lakhs steps for the cause, however, the project aims to take one crore steps by launching a Nationwide campaign encouraging Indians to walk for Road Safety. Just 1 km walk daily for 60 days or for few weeks or for a day in support of the cause and posing it with evidence on the campaign website will enable us to clock more than a Billion steps by collecting walk donations from just 1.5 Lakhs people.  People can donate their walk at “onecroresteps.com”.   Thousands of people are expected to join Mr Subu in the cities which he will be crossing.
